John Burgess is an attorney and CPA who helps business owners, executives, and other senior managers with all of their employee benefits. He is one of Florida's leading experts on employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs) who has helped companies nationwide establish ESOPs and guide them as they face different issues as they become mature ESOP companies. He also advises ESOP trustees during the course of an ESOP transaction, both buying and selling company stock.John also works with employee benefit plan committees, including 401(k) plan committees, on their fiduciary responsibilities and best practices. He has worked with plans of all sizes, ranging from those sponsored by small, local companies with a few dozen participants to large, multi-national corporations with over 10,000 participants and billions in plan assets.
In addition, he helps employers, from startups to public companies, establish equity-based compensation programs for their executives and employees. He has significant experience in guiding employers in understanding, choosing and implementing the program that works best for them, including profits interests, restricted stock, stock options, restricted stock units and stock appreciation rights.
